Information On Symi

Symi is a small island which is part of Dodecanese. It is the 8th largest island of the complex while it is located a bit north of Rhodes.

Symi has a mountainous and rocky surface with its largest part being bare, however at some points, mainly at the east part, there are forests of pine and cypress trees.

Symi is an ideal destination for quiet vacations away from stress and anxiety. The lordly capital of the island consists of two districts, the seaside Gialos (Lower Chorio) and the Chorio (Upper Chorio). Kali Strata is the street with the 500 steps that connects the two parts, with intense tourist activity.

The Symi Festival is the most important cultural event of the summer. It is open from July to September, including performances, exhibitions, literature evenings and more with the participation of famous Greek and foreign artists.

Beaches Of Symi

The beaches are not the strong point of Symi, as most of them are small and only accessible by sea or by plenty of walking. However, they are scenic beaches with crystal water and pure beauty untouched by tourism.
  • Agios Emilianos (West Symi): It is not even a beach, but it is worth a visit for the rare sight with the church of Agios Emilianos.
  • Agios Vasilios (West Symi): A peaceful and scenic beach with dark sand and scattered large rocks.
  • Nanou (Southeast Symi): A fantastic beach with large white pebbles and green-blue water, one of the most scenic beaches of Symi.
  • Marathounta (South Symi): A beach with calm crystal water, white pebble and easy access.
  • Panormitis (South Symi): A wind-free little sandy beach with a little pebble where the road ends.
  • Sesklia (South Symi): A small pebble beach with clean sea and many large trees along the coast.
  • Toli (South Symi): A small picturesque beach with pebble, crystal sea and few oleanders.
  • Nimporio (Northwest Symi): An unorganized beach with thin pebble and road access.
  • Pedi (Northeast Symi): A small organized beach with transparent calm sea. Here there are boats for the rest of Symi's beaches.
  • Agia Marina (Northeast Symi): A small organized beach with calm turquoise sea.
  • Nos (North Symi): This is one of the most popular beaches of Symi with sand, little pebble and deep blue sea.
  • Agios Georgios Dysalonas (East Symi): One of the best beaches on Symi with pebble and turquoise water.
  • Agios Nikolaos (East Symi): A small organized stretch of sand with clean shallow sea and many trees.
