Information On Ikaria

Ikaria is a rather large island located a bit west of Samos.

The capital of Ikaria is Agios Kirikos, located to the southeast. It is a scenic but quiet village that attracts few tourists, which usually prefer the north side of the island like Armenistis and Evdilos (the 3nd harbor of the island), where nightlife is focused. Evdilos is a very picturesque seaside village which is ideal for strolls.

On Ikaria there is a particular lifestyle as the locals have eliminated stress and everything is done at a very slow pace. The most extreme case on Ikaria is Christos Rahon, a mountainous village where the biological clock is working backwards, as life here starts with the sunset and ends at dawn.

On Ikaria there are several big festivals held every year, for which the island if famous. The biggest of those which gather the most people are on August 6th at Christos Rahon and on August 15th on Lagkada.

Ikaria is an ideal destination for quiet family vacations, without lacking in nightlife, which is found in northern villages like Christos Rahon and Evdilos.

Transportation On Ikaria (Car Rentals)

On Ikaria there are bus routes connecting the capital, Agios Kirikos, with the main parts of the island, but the bus schedule is not satisfactory. Furthermore Ikaria is a large island, so we suggest having your own vehicle. Be careful of the road network which is in poor condition with narrow roads and sharp turns.
