Information On Tilos

Tilos belongs to the Dodecanese and it is located southwest of Nisyros and northwest of Halki. It is the seventh largest island of the Dodecanese with a shape that resembles a hippocampus.

Tilos is an island with mountainous rocky terrain, but it does have some valleys with running water where fruits and vegetables are grown. Traversing the extended network of paths of the island, the Ecological Park of Tilos, you will come across many byzantine churches, some of which still preserve their impressive murals.

Tilos has three settlements, Megalo Chorio in the mainland which is also the capital, Agios Antonios and the seaside Livadia, but recently there is settlement developed in Eristos due to the popular beach. In Livadia the entire coastal road has been pedestrianized and is now an ideal place for a stroll, away from cars and noisy traffic.

Tilos is an ideal destination for quiet family vacations, as it has no real nightlife. There are only a few bars, mainly in Livadia.

It is worth visiting Tilos during mid July, where there is a big festival at the Agios Panteleimonas Monastery, on July 27th.

Beaches Of Tilos

Tilos only has a few virgin beaches with crystal sea. Most of them are only accessible by sea using boats that depart from Livadia.
  • Eristos (West Tilos): A large and one of the most popular beaches of Tilos with some tamarisk trees, clean blue saw and thin sand with a little thin pebble.
  • Lethra (Southeast Tilos): A fabulous wide and narrow beach with pebble and clean sea.
  • Livadia (Southeast Tilos): an organized beach with large pebble and large tamarisk trees.
  • Agios Sergios (Southeast Tilos): A small isolated but very picturesque beach with clean blue sea and pebble.
  • Tholos (Southeast Tilos): A small stretch of sand and pebble with imposing gray and red rocks at its sides.
  • Plaka (Northwest Tilos): A lovely long narrow beach with a strip of pebble between the sand and the sea.
  • Agios Antonios (North Tilos): A quiet beach with sand, thin pebble and several rocks.
  • Skafi (North Tilos): A large desolate beach with difficult access and no natural shade.

Transportation On Tilos (Car Rentals)

Tilos has a bus connecting the main points of the small island: Megalo Chorio, Eristos, Agios Antonios and Livadia. However, the bus schedule is rather sparse, approximately every 2 hours, and they also stop early. Of course there is a taxi, but the best thing is to have your own vehicle or rent one.
