Beaches Of Kythnos

Kythnos has countless beaches, most of which are not organized.
  • Merihas (West Kythnos): Merihas is the port of Kythnos and its beach is one of the most popular on the island, mainly due to the easy access. It offers thin golden sand, clean blue sea and some tamarisk trees where you can find shelter from the hot sun.
  • Martinakia (West Kythnos): It is located between the beaches of Episkopi and Merihas, and it is a small beach with sand and a couple of tamarisk clusters.
  • Episkopi (West Kythnos): This beach is close to Merihas and a bit south of the famous Kolona. It is a beautiful beach with nice sand, clean sea, tamarisk trees and a coffee-bar at its side. You can easily get to the beach through the asphalt road.
  • Flampouria (West Kythnos): A large beach with sand and pebbles offering turquoise water and some tamarisks. A small piece of land splits the beach in two smaller ones, the so-called Little Flampouria and Large Flampouria. The beach is named after Panagia Flampouriani which lies nearby.
  • Gaidouromantra (Southeast Kythnos): An amazing large sandy beach at the northeast of the island. It is not widely known yet, so it does not get crowded.
  • Megali Ammos (Southeast Kythnos): As the name suggests, this is a large beach with sand, and you will find it in a bay right under the church of Panagia Kanala. In the next bay there is another beaches called Antonides. Kanala is a popular tourist resort, so there are a lot of shops, taverns, hotels and rooms to let in the area.
  • Skylos (Southeast Kythnos): The fantastic beach of Skylos with the white pebbles is usually empty, as there is a great deal of climbing down in order to reach it. The effort is worth it, as the blue water is so clean that you can see little fish swimming between your legs. It is situated at the south edge of the island.
  • Agios Dimitrios (South Kythnos): The southern beach of Kythnos is found close the Agios Dimitrios village. It is a nice stretch of sand with easy access, a couple of taverns and a few rooms to let. On the beach you will find thick sand and many tamarisk trees, but few people.
  • Kolona (Northwest Kythnos): The most impressive beach of Kythnos is Kolona, which is a strip of sand connecting the tiny island of Agios Loukas with the rest of Kythnos. On top of Agios Loukas island there is the church of Agios Loukas, adding even more to the beauty of the rare scenery. Kolona is one of the most impressive beaches of Cyclades, as it has the sea in both its sides. The only downside of the perfect beach is the difficult access, as the road which leads there (starting from Apokrousi) is best suited for a 4x4 vehicle. However, you do have the option to reach the beach by sea with the boat that leaves from Merihas (10 euro with return trip).
  • Fykiada (Northwest Kythnos): A large beach with sand and green turquoise water. It is the natural continuation of Kolona beach, but they are split by some rocks that go into the sea. Along with Kolona they form a circle that resembles the famous Voidokilia beach of Pylos.
  • Apokrousi (Northwest Kythnos): This is one of the largest beaches of Kythnos with nice sand, a couple of taverns at its sides and a little chapel. You will find it in a closed bay at the east, with part of the beach covered by a series of tamarisk trees. It is easily accessible through the main road and it offers a splendid view to Kolona which can be seen at a distance.
  • Loutra (Northeast Kythnos): Loutra is an upcoming tourist resort and part of its popularity is its beach, both beautiful and well-sheltered from the wind. The beach is laid with sand and thin pebble, plenty of tamarisk trees and some taverns. At the edge of the beach the water of the sea is warm, thanks to the water from the hot gates that reaches the sea at that point.
  • Schinari (Northeast Kythnos): A relatively small sandy beach a bit south of Loutra with several tamarisk trees, some of which almost reach the sea. There is a short and smooth dirt road leading to the beach, while there is some accommodation in the area.
  • Agios Sostis (North Kythnos): The northern beach of the island is nice, quiet and wind-free, as it is in a closed bay with south orientation. It has clean sea, sand with some thin pebble and next to it lies the homonymous church. There is almost no natural shade on the beach while at its right side there are some large rocks. You can get to the beach via a smooth dirt road.
  • Naousa (East Kythnos): It is also called Aousa and it is a charming beach in a protected bay at the east of the island. It is a quiet beach with sand and a view of the little church on the rock, right across. It is connected by stairs to a couple more beaches towards the south, like Kouri and Zogkaki, while it offers easy access through the road.
