Beaches in Skyros

Beaches Of Skyros

Skyros has lovely beaches with clean sea. Most of those beaches are located in verdant locations. The main beaches of Skyros are the following:
  • Agios Fokas (West Skyros): A small beach at the west coast of Skyros with nice light-colored sand, but sometime the sea washes out seaweeds. It is found in a deserted location, in a closed bay with a south orientation. At one side of the beach there is a tavern.
  • Kalamitsa (West Skyros): A large and busy beach that has pebbles on its southeastern side while on its northwestern side it has sand and shallow waters ideal for families with children. Its southeastern side has a beach bar and not far from the beach you will find some taverns and accommodation.
  • Aherounes (West Skyros): A wide beach at the west with sand and thin pebble, clean shallow sea and some small palm trees. Thanks to its south orientation and the closed bay, there sea is usually calm. There is a good fish-tavern and some shops around while the beach does get its fair share of families.
  • Pefkos (West Skyros): An exceptional beach mainly due to the amazing scenery, as it is surrounded by pine tree covered hills. It is found west and it offers sand, green-blue sea and a tavern.
  • Kolympada (Southwest Skyros): This desolate sandy beach is located southwest, a bit further down from Kalamitsa. The beach has thick sand with pebble, while you need to be careful of some rocks at the seabed. To reach the beach it is best to leave your car and walk for a few minutes, as the short dirt road that leads to the beach is bumpy.
  • Sarakino (South Skyros): Sarakino is a small island a bit south of Skyros and there you will find the excellent beach Glyfada, with thin white sand and turquoise blue water. Naturally you can also get there by boat, but it is worth the trouble.
  • Kyra Panagia (Northwest Skyros): A nice small sandy beach at the northwest of the island, in a verdant location with pine trees. It offers warm shallow water, ideal for families with little children, and it is protected from the wind. The beach is organized as there is a beach bar orrefing umbrellas and sunbeds.
  • Atsitsa (Northwest Skyros): A beautiful little beach laid with sand and pebble at the northwest. The enchanting scenery with the pine trees almost reaching the sea is complemented by the huge rocky formations and the islet right across. The beach is easily accessible by an asphalt road.
  • Agalipa (Northwest Skyros): A wonderful small beach with fine sand, crystal clear waters and colorful rocks surrounding it. The beach has natural shade only early in the morning and is not organized. Access is not a simple matter and can be done in 2 ways. The first way is the easy one: by boat that starts at 11:00 from Kyra Panagia but the cost is quite high (20 euros for adults, 10 for children). The second way is by car to a point and then walking through a forest path for about 25 minutes. At the fork where the Agios Petros tavern is located, turn left and continue as far as you can before parking. Closed shoes are ideal as the path is a bit steep in some places, although there are ropes for the convenience of the people. At some point there is a junction where you go right towards Agalipa beach while on the left the path leads to a smaller beach where there is a shipwreck. While approaching Agalipa you will see signs and directions to both beaches.
  • Kareflou (Northeast Skyros): A large beach at the northeast that offers superb sea and seclusion. The beach is laid with pebble and can be easily accessed by a smooth dirt road.
  • Palamari (North Skyros): A large in length and width stretch of sand at the north. It is a beautiful, rather quiet and unorganized beach, while it gives you the chance to visit the archaeological site that lies nearby. You can get to the beach through a smooth dirt road.
  • Agios Petros (North Skyros): A charming beach with thin pebble and clean blue sea at the north edge of the island. The beach offers easy access through a smooth dirt road but no shade, so you might need an umbrella. On the road that leads to the beach, a bit further back, there is an amazing tavern.
  • Magazia / Molos (East Skyros): This beach is huge in length, as it begins at Magazia and ends at Molos, which is the reason that it is called by either name. It has golden sand, sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bar, taverns and many rooms to let and hotels. Thanks to its position it has a great view of Chora. It makes perfect sense that this is the most famous beach of Skyros.
  • Gyrismata (East Skyros): One of the best and most popular beaches of Skyros, large in both length and width, with the only issue its exposure to the winds. It has light sand and blue water, while there are a couple of rocks coming out of the sea that can serve as diving platforms. On the beach there are few sunbeds with umbrellas, a beach bar, a tavern and a picturesque little church build in the rock.
  • Aspous (East Skyros): The beach of the Aspous village has sand and crystal water. At its edge there are a few pine trees but at any other point you will need an umbrella. This beach does not get a lot of visitors so it is ideal for getting some privacy.
