Karpathos has many beautiful beaches for every taste with lovely sea. Most beaches at the east side of the island have pebble and a view to the pine-filled mountains, while the west beaches are usually sandy. There are some small but wonderful beaches on the Saria island, just north of
Karpathos, with boats leaving frequently from Diafani. Finally on
Karpathos, in the Afiartis area to the south, there is the annual Windsurf Speed World Championships held.
- Lefkos (West Karpathos): Three consecutive beaches with nice sand and wonderful sea, close to Sokastro. You have all the facilities of Lefkos village at your disposal, like shops, taverns, and rooms to let. In the same area you will find even more upcoming but quiet beaches.
- Argilopotamos (Southwest Karpathos): An isolated beach with light sand and shallow sea found southwest, close to the airport. It is exposed to the winds and therefor preferred by windsurfers.
- Arkasa / Agios Nikolaos (Southwest Karpathos): A popular beach with light sand and clean turquoise sea which is often crowded due to its small size. Make sure you come here on a windless day, otherwise there are large waves. Not fat, behind the peninsula, you will find the beach of Agios Georgios.
- Finiki (Southwest Karpathos): A small stretch of sand with clear sea close to the Finiki village. There are some tamarisk trees for shade, as well as taverns and shops on the beach. Down the road there are more quiet beaches like Proni, Akrotiri, Adia and Fokia.
- Mikri Ammoopi - Megali Ammoopi (Southeast Karpathos): Cosmic beaches just south of Karpathos town. Mikri Ammoopi is a small sandy beach with nice turquoise sea but without natural shade. Megali Ammoopi is organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, mini-market, taverns and rooms to let, while having shallow crystal sea. Just beyond these two beaches there is one more, Katellia, which is popular for nudism.
- Damatria (Southeast Karpathos): A quiet beach with wonderful sand and turquoise sea. Its distinct characteristic is the narrow strip of sand between the large white pebbles and the sea. You will find it southeast, close to the airport, while down the road there are more small secluded beaches.
- Christou Pigadi (Southeast Karpathos): A large stretch of sand and pebble with blue sea, very close to Karpathos town. Part of it is organized with umbrellas and sunbeds, while not far from the beach you will find taverns and rooms to let. It has no trees while there are small rocks scattered around.
- Valias (South Karpathos): This is a long organized beach to the south. It has pebble while the strong winds that usually blow make it ideal for windsurf and water sports.
- Diakoftis (South Karpathos): A lovely small sandy beach in a closed bay. It offers light sand and crystal shallow sea, but you will need to have an umbrella
- Psoraris (South Karpathos): A large unorganized beach with sand and deep blue sea. It is hard to distinguish from afar because it is hidden behind the rocks. Unfortunately it has no natural shade.
- Diafani (Northeast Karpathos): A beautiful long and narrow beach with pebble at the northeast side of the island. The beach has clear sea, although it is also used as a small harbor because of its pier, but it lacks natural shade. Right behind the beach there is Diafani village where you can find fish taverns, shops and rooms to let. There are also boats coming here from Pigadia.
- Agios Minas (Northeast Karpathos): A stunning little beach with white pebble and lovely turquoise sea. At some distance from the coast there are some trees for shade. It is located at the northeast side of the island with difficult access due to a rough dirt road.
- Vananta (North Karpathos): This small scenic beach is located to the northern edge of the island. It has pebble, crystal water and trees for shade. It is pretty quiet and accessed by a dirt road from Diafani.
- Apella (East Karpathos): This is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island with white sand and delightful turquoise sea. There are pine-filled rocks surrounding the beach while there are huge rocks inside the water. It lies a bit north of Pigadia and the road leads you straight to the beach. Not far there are taverns, rooms to let and the little church of Agios Loukas built inside the rock.
- Kyra Panagia (East Karpathos): A marvelous popular beach with turquoise sea and white sand with little pebble, surrounded by large rocky blocks. The idyllic landscape is completed by the church of Panagia with the red dome which oversees the beach from above. The beach is equipped with umbrellas with sunbeds and a few rooms to let. You will have no hard time finding it a bit north of Pigadia, following the road towards Aperi village.
- Ahata (East Karpathos): A superb quiet beach with pebble and calm crystal sea which deepen suddenly. It is not long but it is rather wide, while being surrounded by tall steep cliffs. It is found a bit north of Pigadia and it is easily accessible by the road.
- Afoti (East Karpathos): A vast beach with beautiful light sand a bit north of Karpathos. It has basic facilities like straw umbrellas, sunbeds and taverns, but no shade. Its continuation ate the beaches of Vronti and Ammos - Xenona. Nearby lies the Early-Christian basilica of Agia Fotini of the 6th century.
