Beaches in Serifos
Beaches Of SerifosSerifos has more than 40 beaches, one for every taste, thanks to its laced shape. Most of the beaches of the island are nothing special having sand and pebble, but the sea is very clean. - Platys Gialos (ΝΕ Serifos): This beach is at the northeast edge of Serifos, close to the Taxiarhon Monastery. It has sand with pebble, nice blue water and it is situated in a narrow bay. The downside is that you will have to cross a cement road of poor quality in order to reach the beach.
- Sykamia (Ν Serifos): It is one of the largest beaches of Serifos and it has sand with thin pebble, inviting green-blue shallow water, a few tamarisk trees and a tavern. It is at the north with a north orientation, and as a result it is exposed to the wind. You can get to the beach easily through a short and rather smooth dirt road.
- Malliadiko (Southwest Serifos): A beach of great natural beauty but in a very secluded area with difficult access. It has sand with little pebble, some tamarisk trees and crystal clean water, and it is found south, close to the Cyclops Cave. A fair deal of walking is required to reach the beach so it is easier to get there by boat.
- Koutalas (Southwest Serifos): A rather large beach at the southwest with sand and pebble. As a beach it is nothing special and that it why it does not gather a lot of people, but it has very clean water. On the beach there are several tamarisk trees and a tavern, and at its side lies a small white church. It is easy to get to the beach through the central road while there is a lot of space for parking your car.
- Livadakia (Southeast Serifos): A usually crowded beach a bit south of Livadi which is favored by families. It has golden sand and tamarisk trees for shade. The beach is small but it is easy to reach and close to the beach there are countless shops, restaurants and rooms to let.
- Karavi (Southeast Serifos): A beach for those who seek peace and quiet, a bit south of Livadakia. It has superb water, sand mixed with thin pebble and some tamarisk trees, while you will also see some horizontal rocks. It is not easy to reach the beach because of a poor quality dirt road.
- Mega Livadi (Southeast Serifos): The calm sea makes this an ideal beach from families with little children. This small beach offers sand, few tamarisks, a couple of taverns right by the sea, easy access and most importantly quiet, as this is not a passage way for cars. It is found at the southwest of Serifos, at the homonymous village.
- Kalo Ampeli (South Serifos): This small sandy beach is located at the south of the island and it offers seclusion. It has turquoise-green water and wide rocks, but no shade at all. To reach it you leave your car at the end of the dirt road and walk for about 15 minutes, passing by the beautiful little church of Sotiras.
- Ganema (South Serifos): A large beach at the south, close to Vagia beach, with golden sand and a little thin pebble. It offers visitors shallow water, some tamarisks, a little tavern and easy access through the main road.
- Vagia (South Serifos): This windless beach is at the south of Serifos and it is laid with sand mixed with thin pebble. It is a quiet beach with clean crystal sea but you have to walk for a few minutes in order to reach it from the main road. There is not natural shade on the beach, so make sure you do not forget your umbrella.
- Avlomonas / Livadi (East Serifos): This is the largest beach of Serifos and the only one which is organized. It is located at the south-east of the island, next to Livadi village. It is a beach with sand and clean water, and it is very popular, although it is not the best beach on the island. The beach offers easy access through the road, tamarisk trees, taverns, a few umbrellas and water sports.
- Lia (East Serifos): A relatively small beach in a beautiful landscape, a bit more south than the beach of Agios Sostis. It has sand mixed with pebble, marvelous crystal water and a beautiful sea bottom, but absolutely no shade so make sure you pack your umbrella. Follow the path that starts from the end of the dirt road and you will be on the beach in 20 minutes.
- Agios Sostis (East Serifos): A wide strip of thick sand that has the sea at both its sides, as it is this beach which connect the Agios Sostis peninsula with the rest of Serifos. The beach is protected from the wind while it has a great sea-bottom and some tamarisk trees. The church of Agios Sostis can be seen at the side of the beach. To get to the impressive beach leave your car at the end of the road and walk for a few minutes.
- Psili Ammos (East Serifos): A crowded beach at the east side of Serifos which has been awarded as the best beach in Europe for 2003 by the Sunday Times. The beach has nice golden sand, some trees, shallow water (ideal for families with kids) and parking space. Access to the beach is through a short dirt road that starts from the main road.
- Agios Giannis (East Serifos): A beach with sand and few large pebbles located at the east, a bit north of Psili Ammos beach. The access to the beach is easy thanks to the road and there are some tamarisk trees on the beach for shade. A few meters before the beach you will see the picturesque little church that was built on 1871.
