Astypalaia has a lot of fantastic beaches for every taste, thanks to its long coastline, but endless golden beaches are not included. The best beaches are the ones at the west part of
Astypalaia, with the northern ones are sandy but the are less popular due to the winds. There are many beaches suitable for solitude that you can only reach by boat.
- Steno (Κεντρική Astypalaia): This small beach is in the middle of Astypalaia where the two parts are connected, facing south. It is divided in two beaches: Mikro (=little) Steno and Megalo (=large) Steno. Both of them have nice sand and some trees.
- Psili Ammos (Κεντρική Astypalaia): A nice sandy beach located in the strip of land that connects the west with the east part. It is not very popular as it is exposed to the norther winds and you need to walk to reach it.
- Plakes (Κεντρική Astypalaia): This amazing little beach is at the middle of Astypalaia facing south. It is so small that you need to get there early in order to find a spot to sit if you are on Astypalaia during the high-season.
- Analipsi / Maltezana (Κεντρική Astypalaia): This sandy beach is at the middle of Astypalaia facing south. Due to its position it is protected from the wind plus the trees there provide some relief from the hot summer sun.
- Schinontas (Κεντρική Astypalaia): A sandy beach with trees that provide shade. This beach is very close to Maltezana / Analipsi.
- Koutsomitis - Kounoupa (Κεντρική Astypalaia): These are two islets very close to Astypalaia. You can reach them by boat from Maltezana / Analipsi and enjoy your swim in the middle of the Aegean. The two beaches where the boat stops are nothing special, but the sea has an amazing turquoise color.
- Mple Limanaki (Κεντρική Astypalaia): The smooth dirt road starting from the right side of Analipsi beach, leads to a series of cute small beaches, others with sand and others with rocks.
- Agios Giannis (West Astypalaia): This is considered by some to be the best beach on Astypalaia. You can reach it either by boat that depart from Peras Gialos beach or - the hard way - by walking through the canyon for about an hour.
- Livadi (Southwest Astypalaia): This is the only organized beach on Astypalaia. It has sand, nice clean water and watersports. There are several shops, taverns and rooms to let around the beach.
- Pera Gialos (Southwest Astypalaia): This beach is very close to the harbor and it has Chora casting its shadow over it. The beach is clean and it has some trees that provide shade. Due to its position it is protected from the wind.
- Agios Konstantinos (Southwest Astypalaia): A beautiful large beach at the south with clear water and a little tavern at the side.
- Tzanaki (Southwest Astypalaia): A small beach with pebble preferred by nudists. A few minutes of walking are required in order to reach this beach, with the trail starting from the main road (there is a sign).
- Vatses (Southwest Astypalaia): A large beach with large pebbles and deep waters in a bay that is surrounded by two high rocky hills.
- Kaminakia (Southwest Astypalaia): A nice large sandy beach in a small bay at the west part of Astypalaia, close to Vatses beach. The 6 kilometers of rough dirt road force many people to come by boat. There are a couple of taverns there with great food.
