Chora of Serifos


The scenic capital of Serifos with its little white houses is built on top of a huge steep rock and luckily it has preserved its traditional character. It is divided in Ano Chora and Kato Chora with fortified having the castle as its core and Kato Chora being more scenic with its freshly white painted alleys and house yards with bougainvilleas.

Kastro of Serifos


From Kastro, the highest peak of Chora, you can admire the panoramic view of Chora and the sea up to the nearby islands of Cyclades. Inside the Kastro there are several churches which are worth visiting, like the metabyzantine church of Agia Varvara, the church of Christ, Agios Konstantinos and Agios Ioannis in the basement of which lies - according to the legend - the head of Medoussa, left there by Perseus.

Serifos Folklore Museum


The Folklore Museum of Serifos was founded in Kato Chora on 1976 by the Serifos Society. Its exhibits include household utensils, handmade textiles, tools, traditional uniforms and last but not least a collection of minerals from the land of Serifos. Telephone 22810 51181.

Archaeological Collection of Serifos


The Archaeological Collection is housed in the neoclassical building of the City Hall of Chora and its collection include findings from the digs around Chora, dated to the Hellenistic and the Roman Ages. Those finding are statues, amphoras, fragments from marble decoration of sarcophaguses, headstones with relief decoration, urn vases, etc. Telephone 22810 52611.

Taxiarhon Monastery


The Monastery of Taxiarhes was founded on 1570 A.C. and from the outside it looks more like castle, as it has very tall walls, loopholes and a scalding bowl. Here you will find remarkable relics, cult vessels, remains from murals of the 17th century, old manuscripts, the golden inlaid temple and a corpus of 1754 A.C. where the settlements of Serifos are listed.

Panagia Church


At Panagia village lies the homonymous byzantine temple which is a sight due to its age, as it was built during the 10th century and is thus the oldest church of Serifos.

Aspros Pyrgos


The Aspros Pyrgos (=White Tower) is a fortification tower of the 4th century B.C. or the Hellenistic Ages. It is a small, round, marble building in a rather good condition which attracts the attention of anyone that is passing by. You will see it as you are driving on the main road from Chora towards Livadi.

Hot Springs


At the rocks of Almyros bay in Megalo Livadi the sea is warm, thanks to the hot water that comes out from inside the earth. The hot springs are known since 1837 and you can reach them by sea or by the path that starts close to the Megalo Livadi village.

Cyclops Cave - Cyclops Throne


At the Cyclops cape, on a position with unique panoramic view, lies the Cyclops Throne. The so-called throne, also called Psaropyrgos by the locals, is made by boulders which resembles the form of a gigantic chair. A bit lower lies the Cyclops Cave, although it has not yet been confirmed that it is an actual cave.
