Attractions in PsaraAttractions On PsaraMonastery of Kimisi TheotokouThe Monastery of Kimisi Theotokou, which is also called Panagia Psariani, is located in the northern part of the island on a spot with incredible sea view. It was built on the 18th century based on the monasteries of Mount Athos and it is an important religious center with great history behind it. Here, before the destruction of Psara, there was an icon of Panagia by Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco) which the locals were forced to send to Syros, in order to save it from the Turks. At the monastery library there are rare manuscripts and books, while the festival held here on August 15th, on the day of Panagia, is magnificent. Church of Agios NikolaosA lovely majestic church with great history behind it, as among other things Konstantinos Kanaris used to come here. It was completed in 1793 and is located on a hill close to the settlement with 60 steps leading to the temple entrance. The church, along with all of its impressive relics was destroyed in 1824 and rebuilt in 1863. It has a remarkable architecture as it is a combination of different styles and it features a wonderful marble iconostasis. SpitaliaSpitalia are a historical building of the 18th century that was once used as a quarantine. It will certainly grab your attention thanks not only to its distinct architecture, but also to its position as it is surrounded by sea from three sides.
