Catacombs

The famous catacombs of Milos are found between the villages of Klima and Trypiti, 150 meters above the sea level on a steep slope. The catacombs are comprised of 3 underground galleries of 185 meters total length and 3 burial chambers with a capacity of 290 tombs. The tombs bear a splendid decoration of symbols and floral motifs. These catacombs along with those of Rome and the Holy Lands are considered to be the most remarkable in the world. Unfortunately only one of the 3 burial chambers is open to visitors. Telephone 22870 21625.

Syrmata

Syrmata are found in several villages of Milos (like Mandrakia and Fyropotamos) but those of Klima are the most impressive, as they have two floors. Syrmata are buildings carved into the rocks with colorful wooden doors where fishermen used to keep their boats during winter.

Ancient Theatre

The most important monument in Klima and the most well-preserved in Milos is with no doubt the Ancient Theatre. The surviving parts of the theatre are the auditorium with the 7 seat rows and the 6 marble stairs, the stage floor, the semicircular orchestra and other individal sections. The Ancient Theatre is found right by the sea.

Sulfur Mines

In Greek they are called Thiorychia and they are one of the most unusual landscapes, vaguely reminding scenes from far west. Here lies the old sulfur mining quarry that operated up until 1956, with the building, the caves and some of the machinery still in their place. The beach found right by the mines has yellowish pebbles due to the sulfur.

Milos Tour

Going on the Milos tour is a great idea, as this way you will get to visit the famous Kleftiko, the Sykia water cave and some of wonderful beaches that are otherwise unaccessible. There are boats sailing daily from Adamanta with the ticket price starting from 25 Euro. The trip usually starts in the morning and last up until the afternoon, and it really is a worth-while experience.
