Chora of Kimolos


The scenic capital of Kimolos, also called Chorio by the locals, is built around the medieval castle. It is build according to the Aegean-style architecture amphitheatrically with painted-white small houses and narrow paved alleys, while some buildings have been declared as preserved. Walk uphill towards Xaplovouni to see the deserted windmills and admire the fantastic view. In Chora you will find several remarkable metabyzantine churches of the 17th century like the church of Panagia Odigitria with its 17th century murals and a portable icon of the Crucifixion of the 15th century, the temple of Agios Ioannis Chrysostomosbuilt with limestone, but the oldest one is the church of Christ built in the 16th century.

Kimolos Archaeological Museum


The museum is housed in a small single space, in a traditional building of Chora, and it has findings mainly from the cemeteries found at the west side of Kimolos. Those findings include 200 urns with elegant decorations and a headstone of the 7th century B.C. (the so called headstone of Kimolos) depicting a female figure.

Kimolos Folklore - Maritime Museum


The museum is housed in a two-story house inside the castle. Its collection consists of traditional costumes of Kimolos, textiles, clay plates, pots and other items of everyday use. There are also topics with photographic material, one with traditional professions of Kimolos and another with nautical instruments and ship paintings. The floor has been formed to represent a traditional home of Kimolos. Telephone 22870 51118.

Skiadi


The gigantic stone mushroom that the locals call Skiadi has become the trademark of Kimolos. The best time to come here is early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun does not burn.

Syrmata


Syrmata are probably the most popular attraction of Kimolos. They are caves inside the rock where fishermen park their boats. You will find them at the seaside village Goupa.

Island Tour


It is worth taking the tour of Kimolos as the boat takes you to the nearby island Polyenos with its turquoise water and the argil clay. During the tour ask to see the two remarkable water caves at the north side of the island: Vromolimni Cave and Konsolina Cave.
