Attractions in KastelorizoAttractions On KastelorizoArcaeological Museum of MegistiIt is housed in a two storey building of 1984 of Kastelorizo, which is part of the medieval castle of Agios Nikolaos. On the ground floor there are three small rooms, one with a representation of an iconostasis of an early Christian church with sculptured decoration, one with amphoras and stone ship anchors, and one with the uniform and the equipment of a sponge diver. Upstairs you will see vases, tombstones, vases, an icon of Agios Dimitrios made of steatite, bottled shipwreck plates and ecclesiastical exhibits like icons, miniature works, church drawings and parts of wall paintings of the 17th century. In the last room there is folklore material like traditional costumes of Kastelorizo, furniture, pottery, cookware and various items of everyday use. Lycian TombThe temple shaped Lycian Tomb of the 4th century B.C. is carved into a rock and it is the only one of its kind in Europe. It has a height of 3 meters, a temple-like Ionian style front and 3 burial chambers inside. It is located right under the castle. Blue CaveThe famous Blue Cave (Galazia Spilia) is also known as Parasta Cave and as Fokiaki from the seals that live there. It is a sea cave of astonishing beauty at the south side of Kastelorizo that will take your breath away with its incredible blue water and the countless white stalactites which are decorating the vast roof. It is 30 meters tall but its entrance is so low that you will have to keep your head down while the boat is passing inside. Metropolis of Agios Konstantinos and Agia EleniIt was built in 1835 on top of an early Christian basilica. It is an imposing temple with granite columns, an ached dome, carved marbles and a bell of 1222 at its bell-tower. The 10 granite columns supporting the roof were brought here by rafts from Apollo's temple in Lycia. Agios Georgios VounouThis monastery which was renovated in 1759 has a wood-carved iconostasis with 18th century icons, and a pebbled yard. Embedded in the building of the monastery is a mosaic floor and column capitals, remnants of an early Christian basilica, while underneath the icon of Agios Haralampos lies a catacomb which the most daring ones can visit. In order to reach the monastery you have to climb 400 stairs and to get inside you must have already gotten the keys from the restaurant Mikro Parisi. Castle of KnightsThe Castle of Knights of the 14th century is built on top of the hill over the harbor, at Kastelo Rosso, after which Kastelorizo was named, due to the redish rock. Nowadays all that remains are the castle ruins, but it is worth coming here as you can also admire the beautiful view. PaleokastroSouthwest of the settlement lies the hill of Paleokastro. There you can see the remains of the classical age fortress with the polygonal fortifications. within the fort there is a 4th century ruined tower and some Lycian tombs from the Roman era curved in the stone.
