Agios Giannis Cave

This is the largest cave in Cyclades and one of the largest in Greece. Its entrance is so small that the locals say: if you do not get down on your knees, you get to see no cave. It would be wise to ask a local tourist guide to bring you here. The interior of the cave will impress you with the artistic stalactite formations, the beautiful colors and the cave size. On the 28th of August the Holy Service is held in the first room of the cave, which is bright with the lights of thousands candles in every corner, under a unique atmosphere of mystic. It will take you 45 minutes to reach the cave from Panagia village.

Polifimos Cave

According to local legends this is the cave of the cyclops Polifimos, son of god Poseidon, who was blinded by Odysseus. The rocks that Polifimos launched against the ship of Odysseus are supposedly the Avelonisia islets (Small Avelas and Big Avelas) right across the south-west edge of Iraklia. This cave is very close to the Cave of Agios Giannis, so be careful not to confuse them.

Kastro

Most probably these are the ruins of an acropolis of the Hellenistic Ages and not a Medieval castle. It is worth visiting the castle in Livadi not only to see the ruins but to admire the unique panoramic view around Iraklia as well.

Merihas Cove

Visitors are stunned when they encounter the 100 meter high rocks of Merihas coming out vertically from the sea. At the top of the rock you will be impressed by the breathtaking view while at the bottom of the rock you will surprised discovering two small beaches. Swimming here is an experience!

Top of Pappas Hill

This is the highest peak of Iraklia. From here you can see many neighboring islands of Cyclades, like Naxos, Donoussa, Schoinoussa, Amorgos, Ios and Paros.
