Monastery of Kimisi Theotokou Attraction
The Monastery of Kimisi Theotokou, which is also called Panagia Psariani, is located in the northern part of the island on a spot with incredible sea view. It was built on the 18th century based on the monasteries of Mount Athos and it is an important religious center with great history behind it. Here, before the destruction of Psara, there was an icon of Panagia by Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco) which the locals were forced to send to Syros, in order to save it from the Turks. At the monastery library there are rare manuscripts and books, while the festival held here on August 15th, on the day of Panagia, is magnificent.
