Beaches Of Samothrace

Samothrace only has few beaches but of great natural beauty. The largest part of the island, besides the southeast with its steep and rocky shores, is surrounded by pebbled beaches. The only exception is Pachia Ammos at the south side with nice sand.
  • Kipi (Southeast Samothrace): The largest beach of Samothrace with tall rocks and large gray and black pebbles. It is a beach of great natural beauty, being the result of volcanic activity. It is located at the southeast edge of Samothrace, at the mountain foothills, where the main road ends.
  • Kremastos (Southeast Samothrace): The largest waterfall of the Mediterranean that flows into the sea from a great height. You can get here by boat and enjoy your swim with a view to the waterfall and the Pania Grias, strange white lines on the rocks as if they were drawn. You will find it southeast, a bit east of Vatos.
  • Pachia Ammos (South Samothrace): Pachia Ammos is the only sandy beach of Samothrace. It is a rather long and wide beach with thick golden sand, clean sea, some umbrellas, beach bar and parking space, while there are rocks at both ends. You can find it in a bay at the south edge of the island, where it can be easily reached by the road.
  • Karkani (South Samothrace): There is a path from Pachia Ammos leading to this quiet beach. Getting down to the beach is hard and dangerous, but it is a worthwhile experience. It is a small and usually empty beach with green water, surrounded by tall rocks.
  • Vatos (South Samothrace): A beach of wild charm with sand and crystal sea, while being surrounded by large rocks, caves and waterfalls. You can only reach it by sea, with a boat.
  • Fonias Beach (South Samothrace): It is names after the medieval Fonias Tower that lies at the side. It is a long beach, nothing special, with pebble and clean sea.
  • Gyali (South Samothrace): A relatively small beach with white pebble and green-blue waters. The sea is so clean that it looks like glass (=gyali in Greek), after which the beach was named. You can get here by boat that departs from Kamariotissa in less than one hour.
  • Therma (North Samothrace): An organized beach with pebble, straw umbrellas, sunbeds and a beach bar. Be careful as the cold water deepens very suddenly.
