Beaches Of Kos

Kos has a lot of fantastic beaches, most of them with sand. If you are looking for a quiet beach, you should pick one of the beaches at the west part of Kos. Also have in mind the the northern beaches are open to the wind.

  • Kefalos (West Kos): This is a west beach that attracts a lot of tourists. It has sand and it is favored by surfers. From the beach you can see the tiny island of Kastri at a close distance that looks like a fort.
  • Paradise (Southwest Kos): As its name suggests, this is a truly magnificent sandy beach, almost 6 kilometers long. It is extremely crowded as it is the most popular beach of Kos thanks to its position, beautiful sand and shallow water. Water here is slightly warmer due to underwater volcanic vents. The green surrounding with the palm trees adds even more to the beauty of the beach. Around the beach there are several cantines and sea-food taverns, and you can also find water sports.
  • Agios Stefanos (Southwest Kos): This is a well organized sandy beach, west of Kos town. The waters are shallow so little children can swim safely here. At the end of the beach are the ruins of early Christian churches that you can visit.
  • Kamila - Polemi - Lagkades - Xerokampos (Southwest Kos): Polemi is also called Magic beach, Lagkades is also called Banana beach, and Xerokampos is also called Exotic beach. Essentially all of those are the same beach separated at points by rocks. They are all nice beaches, some of them rather wide, with calm sea and great golden sand. Beware of nudists if you plan on going to the Xerokampos beach.
  • Lampi (South Kos): A long beach with nice white sand at the north that spans almost 1 klm. It gets a lot of visitors as it provides easy access and several amenities. It is ideal for families with small children, although it gets windy, because the water is shallow.
  • Mastihari (Northwest Kos): A large beach to the north-west part of Kos with nice golden sand. The waters there are very shallow, so it is preferred by families with little kids.
  • Tigkaki (Northeast Kos): This is an organized beach with lots of amenities and watersports. It is probably the most popular beach of Kos thanks to its nice thin white sand and turquoise green water. It is so popular that it is usually crowded, despite its great length. It is prefered by families as the water is shallow.
  • Marmari (North Kos): The nice white sand stretches for a long distance in this beach. As it is on the north side it is exposed to strong winds, something that makes it less crowded and ideal for wind surfing.
  • Psalidi (East Kos): A romantic beach with sand and pebbles close to Kos town to the south. There are facilities on the beach like sun-beds and umbrellas.
  • Thermes (East Kos): Thermes in Greek means warm and this name is due to the hot springs that are found there. These springs form a lake right next to the sea, so close that the waves bring the cool sea water inside the warm lake with the healing water, making for a unique experience. The beach is laid with black pebbles and is surrounded by rocks, creating a very distinct sight.
