Its collection includes sculptures, ceramics and architectural remains from the Neolithic Age up to the Roman Age. The most important items are a clay jar from the Neolithic period, a plate depicting Bellerophon killing Chimaera while riding Pegasus, the unfinished 3,5 meter high krioforos kouros of the 7th century B.C., a statue of Pegasus, a head of Dionysus, a statue of a Muse wearing a veil, a small statue of Venus with a dolphin and cupid, a head of Alexander the Great, and more. Telephone 25930 22180. Thassos Folklore MuseumsOn Thassos there are 3 folklore museums in total, one in Limenaria, one in Theologos and one in Kallirachi. The one in Limenaria is open since 1993 and it is housed in the former Community Store in the village center. Its collection includes household items and clothing (embroidery, textiles, clothing, stoves), professional tools (shoemaker and carpenter bench, resin collection tools, raki alembic, beekeeper gear and much more), and tools from the period of operaition of the mines in this region. The other two folklore museums are similar, depicting life on Thassos during the past centuries. Ancient AgoraIn the Archaeological Site you can see the Acropolis, the Ancient Theatre, the Ancient Agora and much more. The Agora is a very large green space where you can combine a stroll with a visit to the marble ruins. If you get tired make a stop under the large platanus trees and sit on the benches to rest and cool off. Thassos Ancient TheatreVisiting the Ancient Theatre of Thassos is a must, as it is in very good condition and it is in a location with a great sea view. Here, during the summer, theatrical performances and events take place as the ancient theatre of Thassos has excellent acoustics. You will have to climb many stairs to reach it, but the experience is really worth it. Thassos Mountainous VillagesThassos has many scenic mountainous villages that you should not miss, for their rich vegetation as well as for the exceptional food in their taverns. In Kazaviti, also known as Megalos Prinos, there are many good taverns at the main square with the patanus tree, as well as the picturesque church of Agion Apostolon. The most famous village for food, especially for its lamb, is of course Theologos with its many taverns. A rather popular village is Panagia at the east and for good reason, as it is paved with running water, small bridges, traditional coffee shops and souvenir shops for tourists. Monastery of Archangel MichaelThis is one of the most popular attractions of Thassos. The monastery is located at the southeastern edge of Thassos providing a spectacular view to the sea as it is literally hanging from the rocks. Municipal Museum of Polygnotos VagisIt is open since 1981 in the scenic Potamia village and it is entirely devoted to the art works of the sculptor Polygnotos Vagis who was born on Thassos. It is housed in a stone two-floor building in the center of the village and its collection consists of 98 sculptures, of which 25 are very small, and 15 paintings. His first works are mainly inspired by the ancient Greek history, the mythology and the modern Greek history, while the later ones are characterized by abstraction. Many of his works are found in museums all over the world, mainly in the United States. Olive and Olive Oil MuseumThis new and modern museum is located just outside of Prinos harbor. Here you can see a representation of olive oil production methods, various olive varieties, but also get to taste olives and olive oil. There is a room with a photo exhibition as well as a room for projection of educational movies regarding the olive and the olive oil production. Entrance is free. Telephone 25930 71950. GkiolaGkiola is a natural saltwater pool which is formed by the seaside rocks. The road that takes you there is no good plus you will also have to walk, but shooting the Giola and diving into its warm green water is worth the hassle. You will find it on southeast Thassos, a bit eastern of Astris village. WaterfallClose to Kastro village, in the nature, you will find a small and gentle waterfall that flows into a small pond.
