Attractions in SikinosAttractions On SikinosChora of SikinosThe scenic Chora is made up of three separate settlements, the Chorio of the 17th century which is over (south) the road and settlements Kastro and Vouni of the 15th century which are under (north) of the main road. Most of the shops of Chora are in Kastro while it is worth talking a walk in the picturesque Chorio. Kastro has 3 entrances, Paraporti at the southwest and two others towards the east. Besides the church of Panagia Pantanassa inside Kastro it is worth visiting the three windmills which are at the highest point northwest and of course the Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi a bit further down. Episkopi TempleThis peculiar building of the 17th century draws the attention of everyone passing by, as it is by far the most unusual temple you have ever seen. Episkopi was built using the original building, the Roman mausoleum of the 3rd century B.C., as a basis on which they added the dome, the sanctuary top, the built frontage and the three-arched belfry. Monastery of Zoodohos PigiThe monastery is impressive as it is built at the edge of a 300 meter high cliff, right over the sea, and it looks more like an impenetrable fortress because its heavy wooden door and its scalding bowl. One of the cells of the monastery has been turned into a small folklore museum exhibiting tools from every-day life and the old door of the monastery. Telephone 22860 51263. Church of Panagia PantanassaThe church of Panagia Pantanassa with its blue dome is located on the main square of Kastro. It was built on 1787 and it is worth visiting in order to see the rare gilded woodcut temple, the hagiographies of the Cretan Style and the oblations to the Pantanassa icon. Manalis WineryThe little winery is found on the way to Episkopi on a spot with amazing view. Besides the tour and the wines which you can taste, there is also a restaurant in the winery grounds.
