Vathres, which have made Samothace famous, are small ponds formed by the streams at some cavities of the mountain. It is a beautiful route with lush vegetation while you can take a swim at the vathres. The first vathra you will come across after 10 minutes of walking is the so called Gria Vathra and it is the most easily accessible, as the path from there on gets harder. One of the most famous streams of this region is the one of Fonias, at the mouth of which at the north coast, lies the medieval Fonias Tower. The path to the Vathres starts at Therma.

Fonias Waterfall

Fonias river forms a lot of vathres and waterfalls. You start off at the Fonia Bridge and after a 30 minute walk on the verdant path you reach the first waterfall.
