On
Lasithi, like the rest of
Crete, there are countless beautiful beaches for every taste. Most of the beaches are on the north, mainly in Mirabello Bay. On the east coast lies the stunning Vai Beach that is also an attraction. On the south there are some fantastic beaches that are less known.
- Mazida Ammos (Southeast Crete - Lasithi): An amazing beach with thin sand and warm clean sea. It faces south and there are three more remarkable beaches a bit north of it all facing southeast, each one with a unique trait: Argilos beach with natural argyle, Alatsolimni beach being flat with a salt pit and Alona beach also known as Krinakia due to the rare lilies that grow on the beach.
- Ammoudi (South Crete - Lasithi): A fantastic beach, also known as Dragon's Cave. It has thin sand and shallow clean sea, making it ideal for families with kids. There are no trees on the small bay but there is one beach bar with few umbrellas and sunbeds. You park your car on the road and climb down the stairs to the beach.
- Achlia (South Crete - Lasithi): A lovely beach facing south. The sea is clean and usually calm while the beach is laid with sand and thin pebble. There is a beach bar one one side with umbrellas and sunbeds. It offers easy road access and parking space.
- Agia Fotia (South Crete - Lasithi): Situated on the south a bit east of Ierapetra, Agia Fotia Beach is known for its tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty. The beach offers a mix of sand and pebbles, with clear waters. It is less crowded compared to other popular beaches. The beach is organized with a beach bar and a small parking space that quickly fills up.
- Gaidouronisi (South Crete - Lasithi): Gaidouronisi, also known as Chrysi island, is a very small island a bit south of Ierapetra town. Gaidouronisi feautures some amazing beaches with golden sand and amazing turquoise sea. Its best beaches are on the east side and depending on the wind direction you can walk to a different beach, like the Belegrina beach facing north, the Kataprosopo Beach facing east or the Vougiou Mati Beach facing south. Gaidouronisi is a 50 minute sail by boat from Ierapetra.
- Voulisma (North Crete - Lasithi): Located in the village of Istro, Voulisma Beach is one of the best beaches of Lasithi. It is long and narrow beach with amazing white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. It faces north and thus it is hard to enjoy when there is wind. The beach is organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, and water sports. It is suitable for families with kids as it has shallow sea and trees providing shade. Its continuation on the east is Istro Beach.
- Agios Nikolaos (North Crete - Lasithi): Located in the heart of Agios Nikolaos town, this beach offers a convenient location with soft golden sand and clear waters. It is easily accessible and well-organized, with sunbeds, umbrellas, and beachside facilities. Families with children will find the shallow and calm waters ideal for swimming. There are also numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby.
- Almyros (North Crete - Lasithi): Situated near Agios Nikolaos, Almyros Beach faces east. It offers thin sand and pebbles and calm shallow sea, making it suitable for families. The beach is relatively less crowded compared to other popular beaches. The beach has a few trees offering shade, and there are facilities such as sunbeds and umbrellas. The water gets colder as you get closer to the point where the river flows into the sea.
- Vai (East Crete - Lasithi): Vai Beach is located on the eastern coast of Crete and is known for its stunning palm forest backdrop. The beach faces east and offers soft golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Vai Beach is accessible by car and has a large parking area. It is a popular beach and can get crowded during peak season, but its size allows for plenty of space. The beach is well-organized, offering sunbeds, umbrellas, and beachside facilities. Families with kids will enjoy the calm and shallow waters, and there are trees along the beach providing natural shade.
- Erimoupoli (East Crete - Lasithi): A small yet fantastic beach located a bit north of Vai, facing east. There are ancient ruins on the sea floor so do not forget you mask. There are no trees and the beach is not organized, so bring your umbrella. There is parking space but it is a bit of a walk.
