The capital of Kythira is a scenic settlement that started being built on the 13th century. The influences from Eptanisa, Cyclades and Peloponese are apparent in the architecture of the buildings. On the main square there are tall palm trees while at its highest peak stands the castle where the historical records of the island are kept, with manuscripts and texts of the 16th century.
