Agios Panteleimon Monastery Attraction
The monastery was founded on 1470 inside a cave at an altitude of 450 meters, about 7 kilometers from Megalo Chorio, in a green valley with running water. It features a remarkable wood-carved iconostasis of 1714 and murals of the 15th century, while the painting of the dome is the work of Grigorios Symaios. The monastery consists of a stone-built fortification, a stunning pebbled courtyard, a rectangular tower, cells, warehouses and other spaces. The capitals of the internal columns are of early Christian style. It is here where the large festival takes place on July 25th-27th.
